I build simple, stylish, effective websites for small businesses, charities and social enterprises in the UK, using the Squarespace platform. My sites look great and work well on PC, mobile and tablet.

What I do
- Work closely with you to understand and deliver what you want
- Analyse your existing website data (where relevant) to learn how your customers find and use your site
- Offer advice on website structure and usability
- Provide copywriting and copyediting services as part of the package
- SEO - make sure everything's optimised for Google etc
- Ecommerce that's simple and cost-effective, with payments via PayPal and/or Stripe
- Hand over everything to you when done so that you have full access to and control over your site
- Help you with ongoing updates and maintenance if needed (first 30 minutes a month for free - see Pricing section below)
- Work quickly - I like to get stuff finished and move onto the next project
What I don't do
- Promise stuff I can't deliver
- Build complex websites with custom functionality
- Custom design or photography work - though I can recommend designers and photographers
- Use Wordpress (life's too short)
As well as building websites from scratch I also offer consultancy services for Squarespace sites - so if you're having trouble figuring out how to make your site look or work the way you want, give me a shout.
Pricing
I typically charge between £750 and £1500 per website (excluding Squarespace's fees, which you'll pay yourself - most of my clients use the lowest-priced Personal option). The price depends on your requirements, so please get in touch to talk through what you want (even if you're not sure yet - I can help you figure it out).
If you need help with updating your site after the initial work is done, I'll provide basic support (up to 30 minutes per month) for free and charge £60 per hour after that.
I offer a 10% discount for charities and social enterprises.

My experience
I've spent over twenty years at Amazon, figuring out how to present information clearly and help customers find what they're looking for. I think I'm reasonably good at it. In 2016 I decided to try to do more good, so on a freelance basis I'm bringing my experience and skills to help small businesses, charities and social enterprises to have an effective presence online.
I'll work closely with you to understand what you and your customers or clients want, and build you a website that delivers it. I won't patronise or bullshit you. I'll be clear upfront about what I can and can't do, and I'll keep you involved right the way through the process. I get most of my business from personal recommendations so it's important to me that my clients are happy.

Rebecca Dent: High Performance Dietitian
Rebecca described her previous website as "uninspiring" and "pretty dire - I hate it that much I'm too embarrassed to look at it myself." I worked with her to understand what her business needed, and built her a new site including photos, videos, and blog that she's really happy with.
Shiny Memories Photography
I built a new website for this small family photography business; they'd previously used a free website platform and their old site didn't look great and didn't rank very well in Google search. With a new, search-optimised, mobile-optimised site and a fresh domain name, they're now getting four times as many visitors.
Cyber Counsel At Law
I was engaged to build a new website for three lawyers specialising in cybersecurity and cybercrime, comprising a homepage, blog, About page and contact form.
Mike's Table
The visual identity for this social enterprise was created by Lee Simmons. I acted as a consultant on the technical side, including setting up the ticketing system using Squarespace's ecommerce functionality.
